Therapists Accepting New Clients in Halifax

Get matched with a therapist based on your needs and current availability

Booking With a Psychologist or Counsellor in Nova Scotia

Taking new counselling clients.
We are currently accepting new clients for most concerns.
If you’re looking for a therapist in Nova Scotia, the most important first question is simple:

Where can I actually get an appointment?

  • At Green Leaf Psychological Services, our psychologists are often accepting new clients in Halifax, especially for common concerns like anxiety, stress, and depression.

  • Instead of relying on a static availability list, we review each inquiry in real time and suggest therapists who fit your needs and have current openings. If we don’t have a suitable match, we’ll let you know.

  • We welcome you to complete our short personal therapy request form and you will hear from us via email very soon - even on weekends and evenings.

  • We offer both in-person and virtual counselling appointments, as well as weekday, weekend and evening appointments.

Availability Based on Your Concerns
Therapy appointment
Our therapists’ availability changes week-to-week (and month-to-month) and can vary depending on the type of support you’re looking for.

We currently have availability for concerns such as:

  • Anxiety and stress-related concerns
  • Depression and low mood
  • Relationship issues
  • Self-esteem

Availability for more specialized or high-demand services may vary including:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Couples therapy
  • Adolescent counselling

The best way to know what is currently available for therapy is to contact us directly.

We’ll review your needs and let you know if we have a therapist who can assist you - there is usually a good chance that we can :)

How Quickly Can I Be Seen?
When we have an appropriate therapist for your concerns, you may be matched within a few days or a few weeks.

When availability is more limited or if we do not have a suitable psychologist or counsellor for you, we will:

  • Let you know upfront
  • Offer the closest available options
  • Provide other resources for support outside of our clinic

Our goal is to assist you whenever possible, but also to be very honest if we cannot provide the service you are seeking and give you other options for therapy.
How Our Intake Process Works
booking process
We take a step-by-step, hands-on approach to matching clients with our therapists.

  1. You reach out and share a brief description of what you’re looking for
  2. Our team reviews your needs and preferences
  3. We check availability across our clinicians
  4. If we have a good match, we will send you some appropriate appointment options with one or two of our therapists within one business day

  • This helps you avoid contacting multiple therapists one by one who may already be full or not the right fit.

  • You don't need to know who you wish to work with. Part of our role is helping guide you through the process.

  • You can choose whether you attend in-person counselling or prefer to book virtual therapy.
Fees And Insurance
Blue Cross Insurance coverage
  • Our therapy and assessment services are eligible for reimbursement from most insurance plans. We can direct bill many insurance companies such as Blue Cross and Green Shield.

  • If you are a student, and have your school's insurance plan, we will likely be able to direct bill your policy. Most local colleges and universities (Dal, SMU, MSVU, Kings, NSCC) offer 100% coverage for our services up to a specified amount each academic year.

  • Please see more information about our transparent fees.

How Is This Different From Using Online Directories?
Therapy session between psychologist and client
  • Most directories (including large national platforms like Psych Today) show therapists who may or may not have current availability. This often leads to delayed responses or multiple inquiries before finding someone who is actually accepting new clients.

  • As a local mental health clinic in Halifax, we only match you with our therapists who are currently able to take new clients based on your needs.

  • This reduces delays and avoids unnecessary outreach.

  • Instead of you searching through listings or contacting multiple therapists, we handle the matching process for you and will provide other options if we don't have a good fit for you.
